A Digital Cleanse for Your Nervous System
We talk about energy clearing all the time. Cleansing your home. Saging your aura. Cutting cords. Resting when you're overwhelmed. But what about your phone?
For something we carry with us 24/7, our phones hold way more energy than we give them credit for. The texts you never responded to. The blurry screenshots you swore you’d revisit. The people you follow out of guilt, curiosity, or because you forgot how you even know them. It all adds up.
Someone recently came to me asking for a digital cleanse. It started simple: muting a few accounts, clearing out old saved posts, and archiving things that just felt kind of “meh.” Somewhere in the process, I realized it had been a while since I checked in with my own space. My phone needed it too.
I ended up doing a full energy cleanse, sent some Reiki, and cleared out accounts that had been quietly sending my nervous system into overdrive. 🤕 It was such a needed reminder that the things we scroll through every day carry more energetic weight than we think.
Every now and then I like to do one for myself. I call it energetic hygiene for my digital space — including my website, vibrationalbloom.com. I muted a few accounts that felt off, unfollowed people I hadn’t interacted with in forever, and honestly? It felt so good. Not because anything dramatic happened, but because I’ve changed. We all do, and that’s the best part. It’s also a really healthy sign that you’re growing.
The second I cleared things out, I felt it. My feed got quieter, lighter, and way more aligned with who I am now. Honestly, it was like giving my nervous system a digital exhale.
It’s turned into a little ritual for me, especially during transitions — when I’m starting something new or feeling unsure about what I even want to share. If you're in that space too, maybe thinking about posting more, sharing your voice, or starting a creative project but not sure where to begin, this is actually a great place to start! Clearing a little room creates space for something new to land.
Sometimes clarity comes from deleting that old voice memo and unfollowing your ex’s cousin. Your energy will thank you for it! 😊🤝🏻
Lately, it feels like a lot of people like to say that social media is the problem, but more often, it’s the algorithm we’ve accidentally trained. It’s not just random. Your feed is built from your past clicks, likes, saves, and scrolls. That content didn’t just appear out of nowhere.
It’s easy to blame the platform or other people, but the truth is, your digital space often reflects who you used to be or what you’ve unconsciously engaged with. The good news? You can reprogram it. You can literally teach your feed what kind of energy you’re available for. Clearing things out helps reset what you’re shown, and over time, it shifts what your mind starts to expect, seek out, and believe is possible. Your nervous system will notice the difference. And yes, that also includes taking responsibility for how you manage your phone and being intentional about who and what comes through it.
I also think it’s also worth mentioning: constantly looking at accounts that trigger comparison can lead to serious disconnection from your body, even body dysmorphia. It’s so easy to forget that most people are not sharing their down moments in real time. And honestly, that’s okay. I think it can actually be a good thing. At least to me, it means they’re taking the time they need and maybe choosing to share from a more grounded place later on. You don’t want your feed full of trauma-dumping or stuck in victim mindset energy. That can spread like wildfire and that’s not really the vibe we’re going for.
In my own life, I try to look at those quieter seasons as things I’m growing through, not things I need to post about right away. And when I do feel ready to share, I like to reframe those moments as things I’ve moved through, not just something that happened to me. Those are the kind of creators I’m looking to follow on social media platforms!
And I have to say, one of my favorite things about my feed is how it’s become a sort of digital photo album. I’m not sure if you guys remember, but I lost so many photos from old phones over the years. Back in the flip phone days, trying to transfer pictures and half of them just disappearing into the void.
So now, it’s actually comforting to know that so many memories live here. Moments I love, people I love, little chapters of life I can scroll back through. Years down the line, I’ll be able to look back and smile. And to be honest, I already do.
And let’s be real — how are you supposed to feel confident or inspired when your feed is full of people doing things that don’t even feel like you? Or worse, people who make you question everything you were excited about five minutes ago? Yeah... no thank you.
A phone cleanse is basically like turning down the noise so you can actually hear yourself think without spiraling. You don’t have to do a full digital detox. Just start with whatever feels loud, off, or like it’s pulling you out of alignment. That’s usually where the magic begins. ✨
Signs Your Phone Might Be Holding Energetic Clutter
You open Instagram/facebook or any social media platform for that matter and instantly feel overwhelmed
You keep scrolling, but nothing actually feels good
You have old texts, voice notes, or photos that bring up weird energy
Your home screen feels chaotic from the endless alerts
You’re using your phone to zone out, but leave feeling more anxious
A Simple Digital Energy Cleanse You Can Start Today
Unfollow or mute anyone who feels off
This doesn’t need to be dramatic. If someone’s posts make you feel anxious, annoyed, or like you suddenly need to overhaul your entire life, mute or unfollow. Bless and release. Your feed is your energetic space, and you get to decide who stays in it. Pro tip from me is to restrict them on platforms so you don’t see them as much or learning how to mute them. I personally love this so I’m able to sit with it and put distance between myself or a person to really look at it from a different perspective and let my mind settle if I’m feeling a little anxious about it.
Archive the messages you’ve been pretending don’t exist
You know those texts from 2021 you’ve been emotionally avoiding? The group chats that give you low-key anxiety? Not to mention are probably taking up gb’s of storage in your phone for absolutely no reason. You don’t have to delete them forever, but hitting “archive” is a solid energetic boundary. You don’t need to keep holding space for conversations that already left the chat.
Clean out your camera roll without spiraling
Look through your photos with compassion and NOT pressure. The blurry dinner pics, the 14 versions of the same quote, the album from that emotionally confusing season — all of it holds energy. If you’re not ready to delete certain photos yet, that’s okay. Even acknowledging what’s still there can shift something and if I have anything to suggest, it would be to start small. Even if that means deleting a text that’s hard for you to look at or someones contact card. A good indicator of when it’s time to delete is when you cringe every time you see their name in your phone.
Reorganize your home screen so it feels calm
Move your apps around, change your background, and stick anything overwhelming in a folder called "later." Group things by how you want to feel, not just by category.
Set boundaries your nervous system will appreciate
You don’t always have to delete social media or meditate in a forest. Maybe just begin with avoiding your phone before breakfast. Or pause for a few breaths before checking texts. Try silencing your notifications for a little while. The point is to create space, not restriction.
Why This Kind of Clearing Helps
Your digital world is part of your energetic world. What you scroll, save, read, and revisit shapes your inner experience just as much as your physical space does. When your phone is full of noise, pressure, or content you’ve outgrown but feel weird letting go of, it adds up. And yes, it impacts your nervous system more than you think!
You deserve a space that feels clear, supportive, and in sync with where you're headed. Not stuck in who you used to be.
And if a full clean-out feels like too much today, that’s okay. Start with one app. One folder. One message. Let it be small. Let it be honest. Let it feel like something that actually supports you!
Your nervous system will notice. Promise. 🤞🏻
