What is an Aura (and Why Should You Care About Yours)?
A beginner-friendly guide to the energy field you’re already sensing.
The Energy Around You: What Your Aura Really Is
Have you ever met someone and instantly felt comfortable around them? Or walked into a room and picked up on tension before anyone said a word?
That’s your intuition reading their aura.
An aura is your energetic field. Think of it like an invisible bubble of energy that surrounds you. It’s not just a spiritual concept; your aura reflects what’s going on with you physically, emotionally, and mentally. And it’s constantly interacting with the world around you.
Your Aura Shows Your Current Energy
Your aura carries the energy of your thoughts, emotions, and body all at once. When you’re grounded and in a good place, your aura feels bright and strong. When you’re stressed or drained, it can feel collapsed or dull.
This is why you might notice people gravitating toward someone who feels light and easy to be around, or pulling away from someone whose energy feels heavier. Your aura is like your energetic first impression.
It’s Constantly Interacting With the World Around You
Your aura isn’t static. It’s responding all the time. When you’re with other people, your aura overlaps with theirs, even if you don’t notice it. This can be uplifting, like when a friend’s joy rubs off on you. It can also feel draining, like when you leave a conversation and feel “off” for no reason.
Have you ever felt great all morning and then walked into a meeting and your mood shifted instantly? That’s your aura responding to the energy in the room, and your intuition is the part of you that interprets that shift.
Think of it like Wi-Fi signals. The aura is the invisible signal being broadcast, and your intuition is the receiver. It’s how you “just know” someone feels safe, inspiring, or unsettling without any proof.
You Can Learn to Tune Into It
You don’t have to see auras to notice them, and yes, you can practice. Here’s a simple way to start:
Close your eyes and hold your hands a few inches apart. Slowly move them closer and farther away. Do you feel a subtle push or pull? That’s your energy.
Check in after interactions. Ask yourself: Do I feel lighter, heavier, clearer, more anxious? This helps you notice how your aura shifts.
Try the mirror practice. Stand in front of a mirror with a white background. Soften your gaze and see if you can sense a glow or haze around your head or shoulders.
These little moments of awareness build over time, and soon you’ll start noticing patterns.

Why This Matters
Your aura isn’t just something to learn about. It’s something to care for. When your aura is clear and strong, you feel like yourself. You’re grounded, intuitive, and less likely to carry other people’s emotions or stress as your own.
When your aura gets cluttered, you might feel drained, foggy, or unsettled without knowing why. That’s why it’s so important to tend to your energy field, just like you would your physical body.
What’s Next
Now that you know what an aura is and how it works, the next step is learning how to keep it clear and balanced. This is where auric hygiene comes in, which is simply the practice of caring for your energy field so it stays strong and supported.
In the next post, I’ll share simple ways to care for your aura daily so you feel lighter, clearer, and more rooted in your own energy.
Because when you take care of your energy field, you take care of you.
