Is Your Energy Blocked? Here’s How to Tell
Recognizing stagnant energy is the first step to releasing it. Try these 3 powerful shifts
Have you ever felt stuck, drained, or out of alignment, but could not quite explain why? That heavy, sluggish sensation might be a sign of stagnant energy sitting in your body and aura. Energy is meant to flow, but stress, emotional buildup, and everyday life can cause it to get trapped, making us feel mentally, emotionally, and even physically blocked.
How I Realized My Energy Was Stagnant
A few months ago, I noticed myself feeling off. It wasn’t the feeling of being completely exhausted, but more so weighed down like something was not moving the way it should. I struggled to focus, my body felt sluggish, and I kept procrastinating on things I normally would not hesitate to do. Even simple tasks felt heavier than usual, like I was wading through molasses instead of moving with ease.
That is when I realized I was not just tired, I was holding onto stagnant energy. If you have ever felt mentally foggy, emotionally drained, or just stuck in place, you might be holding onto it too.
Why We Store Stress in the Hips
One of the most fascinating things I’ve learned is that we don’t just process emotions in our minds, we store them in our bodies too. The hips, in particular, tend to be a place where stress, emotions, and even trauma are held. That’s why tightness or discomfort in the hips can sometimes feel deeper than just a physical sensation. It’s often connected to stored tension.
The psoas muscle, a deep-seated muscle in the hip area, is closely tied to our fight or flight response. So when we experience prolonged stress or emotional strain, this muscle can tighten, creating physical discomfort that reflects the emotional energy we have not yet released. This is also why people often feel a wave of relief, emotions, or even unexpected tears when practicing hip-opening stretches or movement - I know I do whenever I’m in the froggy pose during my yoga classes.
Signs You May Be Holding Stagnant Energy:
Feeling exhausted even after resting
Mental fog or difficulty focusing
Emotional heaviness mood swings or irritability
Procrastination or feeling stuck in repetitive thought patterns
Tightness or discomfort in the hips and lower back
If any of these feel familiar, your body and energy field might be asking for a reset.
Here are three ways to clear stagnant energy and restore your natural flow:
1. Intentional Movement
Since stuck energy is often stored in the body, movement is one of the best ways to release it. Gentle mindful movement can help shift emotional blockages and bring circulation back to areas that are holding tension.
✨ Try:
Hip opening yoga poses like Pigeon Pose or Butterfly Stretch to release tension
Shaking or dancing - letting your body move freely to music can help clear energy
Walking outside especially in nature which helps ground and reset your system
2. Breathwork and Energy Clearing
Breathing techniques help to release trapped energy, regulate emotions and bring the nervous system back into balance. Since breath and energy are deeply connected, practicing mindful breathing can move stuck emotions through the body.
✨ Try:
Deep belly breathing → Inhale deeply for 4 counts hold for 4 then exhale for 4
Breath of Fire → A rhythmic powerful breath that stimulates energy flow
Reiki self healing → Placing your hands on your body and channeling energy to areas of tension
3. Emotional Release Practices
Sometimes energy lingers because we’re unconsciously holding onto thoughts, memories or emotions that we have not fully processed. Taking time to acknowledge and release what no longer serves us can help clear these blockages.
✨ Try:
Journaling prompts like “What am I ready to release?” or “What emotions am I avoiding?”
Soaking in an Epsom salt bath (one of my personal favorites) since it relaxes muscles and energetically clears the body
Setting an intention to let go. Even simply affirming “I release what no longer serves me can shift energy”
