Reiki and Grounding Through Movement 🧘🏼♀️
If you had told me a year ago that I would be replacing high intensity training with yoga and daily walks I probably would have laughed. After years of playing sports and grinding through intense workouts I thought movement had to be hard to be effective. But lately something has shifted. My relationship with movement energy and even healing has evolved in ways I never expected.
Lately the word energy has been calling to me in ways I cannot ignore. During my yoga class today I kept hearing it over and over again, energy in the body, energy in the breath, energy flowing through movement. It felt like a quiet reminder of something I have been deeply immersed in my Reiki practice.
As my journey with Reiki deepens, I have become more aware of energy, not just as an abstract concept, but as something real, something I can feel and work with. Energy flows through us, within us, and beyond us. When I practice Reiki, I become a vessel, allowing universal life force energy to move through me, guiding it to where it is needed most. Whether I am offering healing to myself or to others through distance Reiki, I feel that powerful current-subtle yet undeniable.
But with this heightened sensitivity to energy, I have also learned the importance of grounding. When we work with energy so intimately, it is easy to feel unanchored, almost as if we are floating between worlds. At times, I have felt lightheaded, emotionally overwhelmed, or even disconnected from my own body after deep Reiki sessions. That is where grounding comes in, where I have found balance through physical movement.
I have always worked out, having played on sports teams all my life. Training was second nature to me, especially after playing collegiate field hockey. But after I graduated, I decided it was time to take a break from hang cleans and sprints for conditioning and focus on movement that felt more aligned with my body. My body had been through years of intense training, and I knew I needed a new approach to movement, one that did not feel like I was constantly banging myself up. I also knew I needed something to lower my cortisol levels. After years of pushing through stress inducing workouts, I wanted to find a way to move that supported my nervous system instead of overloading it. That is when I started exploring cycle syncing and other forms of mindful movement. Instead of pushing through high intensity workouts all the time, I began focusing more on low impact training and simply getting my step count up.
Lately I have been doing more yoga and exploring the Denver and Boulder area. I recently learned what CorePower is and hello?? I feel like I have been living under a rock. Or maybe my old town was… lol. Either way I have been loving diving into different styles of yoga finding new studios and experiencing how different environments shift my energy. There is something about moving in a heated room with music that just hits differently. It is like a perfect balance between mindfulness and intensity where I can both challenge myself and reconnect with my body in a way that feels energizing rather than exhausting.
Yoga has been one of my greatest teachers in this shift. The way my breath moves in sync with my body, the way I root down into my mat, the way my muscles engage, it all reminds me that I am here, in this body, in this moment. Through yoga, I feel my energy circulating in a healthy, intentional way.
Beyond yoga, I have incorporated more walking, bodyweight exercises, and gentle strength training into my routine. There is something incredibly grounding about feeling my feet press into the floor during a slow, controlled movement or the rhythmic flow of a long walk. These types of movement bring me back to my physical form, anchoring my energy and preventing me from getting lost in the expansiveness of Reiki work.
What I have come to realize is that working with energy, whether in Reiki, meditation, or intuitive practices, needs to be balanced with embodiment. It is one thing to connect with the unseen, but it is just as important to stay connected to the physical. The more I strengthen my body, the more stable I feel energetically. The more I move with intention, the more I trust my ability to channel energy without becoming drained or ungrounded.
This journey has been teaching me that healing is not just about moving energy it is about holding energy. It is about creating a strong foundation within myself so that when I open up as a channel I do so from a place of strength and stability.
So if you are on a similar path whether you are practicing Reiki deepening your yoga practice or simply becoming more sensitive to energy remember the power of movement. Find what grounds you what brings you back into your body. It could be yoga strength training dance or even a mindful walk. Whatever it is embrace it. Let it be your anchor as you continue to explore the vast world of energy.
Because in the end balance is the key. We are both energy and matter spirit and body. And the more we honor both the more aligned we become.
I would love to hear from you. How do you ground yourself when working with energy? Let’s share and learn from each other. Drop a comment below.
