Cold Plunge Therapy & Reiki: Combining Energy Healing with Cold Immersion
From Cold Showers to Full Body Ice Baths - How I Built My Tolerance and Added Reiki for Next Level Recovery
I Tried Cold Plunge Therapy for Energy and Healing and This is What Happened
If you’ve been curious about cold plunge therapy but don’t know where to start, I get it! Jumping straight into an ice bath can feel intense, which is why I started with a beginner-friendly approach - slowly building up my tolerance by finishing my showers with cold water before moving on to a cold pod setup at home.
Now that we have our own cold plunge tub (this one here), the next step is fine-tuning the experience - figuring out the perfect spot for it in our home and gradually increasing my cold exposure time. But eventually, I’d love to upgrade to a higher-end system like this one that offers temperature control and built-in filtration!
If you’re interested in trying cold therapy but don’t know where to start, here’s a breakdown of beginner to advanced methods, what temperatures work best for different benefits, and how to integrate Reiki into your cold plunge practice for a deeper energetic reset.
Beginner to Advanced: How to Ease Into Cold Therapy ☃️
Beginner: Cold Showers (Perfect for Getting Started)
Start by finishing your shower with 15-30 seconds of cold water. Gradually increase to 1-2 minutes at the end of your shower. Focus on controlled breathing—slow inhales through the nose, long exhales through the mouth. Water temperature: 50-60°F for energy, circulation, and mental clarity.
Intermediate: Cold Plunge Tub (What I’m Using Now!)
Once you’re comfortable with cold showers, you can level up and try full-body immersion in a cold plunge tub. Start with 1-2 minutes and work up to 3-5 minutes per session. Temperature: 40-50°F for deeper recovery, inflammation reduction, and resilience training. We use this cold pod, which is affordable, easy to set up, and holds the cold well!
Advanced: High-End Cold Plunge System (My Goal Setup!)
If you’re serious about cold therapy, a temperature-controlled system is the way to go. These let you customize the temperature, so you can experiment with extreme cold exposure safely. Target temperature: 33-39°F for max recovery, deeper cold shock benefits, and metabolic boosts. My dream setup? This one with built-in filtration and precise temperature control!
Reiki & Cold Plunge Therapy: How to Combine Them for Energy Healing
As a Reiki practitioner, I’ve started incorporating Reiki energy into my cold plunges, and the results have been incredibly grounding and powerful. Cold immersion already activates the nervous system, but when combined with Reiki, it creates a full-body energy reset that can help clear stagnation, realign chakras, and deepen relaxation.
How to Do Reiki in Your Cold Plunge (If You’re Attuned)
Set an Intention Before Entering
“I invite Reiki energy to flow through me, bringing balance, resilience, and renewal.”
If you’re working on a specific chakra, set an intention to clear blockages (e.g., “I release fear and embrace trust” for the root chakra).
Activate Reiki Symbols (If You’re Level 2 or Higher)
Mentally draw Cho Ku Rei (Power Symbol) over the water before stepping in. Use Sei He Ki (Emotional Healing Symbol) to release stored stress. If you’re working on deep healing, use Hon Sha Ze Sho Nen (Distance Symbol) to send Reiki into your future self for ongoing resilience.
Use Breathwork to Direct Reiki Energy
Inhale Reiki energy into the body, exhale any stagnant energy into the water. Visualize white light surrounding you as the cold water flushes away tension and resets your system.
Close with Gratitude & Grounding
Before exiting, place your hands over your heart and send gratitude to your body, mind, and energy field for its strength and healing. Once out, take a few grounding breaths and imagine golden light surrounding you, sealing in the benefits.
What Are the Benefits of Reiki + Cold Therapy? 🧊
Muscle Recovery & Circulation → Reduces soreness, improves circulation, and helps flush out toxins.
Mental Clarity & Focus → Reiki + cold water clears mental fog, increases dopamine, and enhances mood.
Energy & Nervous System Balance → Helps balance the sympathetic and parasympathetic nervous systems, reducing stress and improving emotional regulation.
Deep Chakra Clearing → Cold water shocks the system into realignment, making it a perfect tool for energetic resets.
Stronger Connection to Your Body & Breath → Reiki + breathwork in cold immersion trains your body to stay present in discomfort, building resilience in all areas of life.
Creating a Cold Therapy Ritual at Home
Now that I’ve worked my way up from cold showers to a full-body plunge, my next focus is consistency → making cold exposure part of my daily routine. Whether you start small with a cold rinse after your shower or go all in with a cold tub setup, the key is to make it sustainable and intentional (intention is everything).
I’ll keep sharing my cold plunge journey, including how I decide on the best placement for our setup and my experiences integrating Reiki with cold therapy! But I’d love to hear if you’ve tried cold exposure? Would you ever do a full plunge? Drop a comment and let’s chat!
Until next time, sending you high vibes, cold plunge courage, and Reiki energy! 🌀
Love and Light,
